In this interview, Vera speaks openly about her path into the world of pleasure and pain.

New to Femdom? Our Femdom Guide provides a clear and consensual introduction to female dominance.

Lady Sas: Dear Vera, please tell us how you became a Dominatrix.

Vera Beaufort: I have always gravitated toward controlled, intentional experimentation with edges, testing my own and others’ limits, even from a very young age. I have long been fascinated by the capacities of the body and the mind. For me, this curiosity expressed itself as an intense interest in physical states at both extremes: pleasure and pain, and the nuances required to reach them.

Like many, I was introduced to the world of professional domination through mutual friends already working in the field, who suggested I might be well-suited to the work. I entered the world quickly thereafter and found myself immediately immersed.

My professional training began in Europe and was later continued in Australia. Once that training commenced, there was an unmistakable pull and a sense that this was not peripheral work, but something that would sit at the centre of my life. I have grown and developed significantly since my early days. While I still retain the same curiosity around limits, I take pride in the container I am able to provide for myself and for others.

In Australia, the calibre of Mistresses is exceptionally high. We are rigorous, thoughtful, and deeply committed to the craft. I feel so much gratitude toward those who have shared their knowledge with me and shaped my evolution, and who continue to offer support along the way.

Vera Beaufort

Lady Sas: Your website doesn’t say Mistress Vera, Lady Vera, Madam Vera, or Princess Vera, but simply “Vera.” That’s unusual in this industry. Why is that?

Vera Beaufort: I do it because it feels more modern and authentic to me. For me, the establishment of authority, dominance, or gravitas within a given dynamic has less to do with titles or formal labels, and more to do with how I hold myself.

The use of a name is, in itself, a powerful gesture. It acknowledges recognition and attention. When those who serve me are permitted to use my name, it situates them unmistakably beneath me, particularly as they themselves often remain held within a nameless designation I have assigned.

That said, I am known to many of my devotees as Mistress, Maîtresse, or Goddess, among other titles. This, too, is a pleasure to play with, shifting according to the temperament, desire, and imagination of the submissive.

My interests are broad, impact (and whipping in particular) has always been a deep love of mine.

Vera Beaufort

Lady Sas: What do you associate with “Beaufort”? Why did you choose this name?

Vera Beaufort: “Beaufort” translates loosely as beautiful fortress or stronghold in French. The name was suggested by an early and very dear submissive, as an homage to both my temperament and my French roots. I took to it immediately, and it stayed.

It carries a sense of strength and authority, but also of shelter, holding, protection, and beauty. I am drawn to that tension and the meeting of the soft and the hard, the invitation and the boundary, coexisting within the same name.

Vera’s Claim: “Whip smart”

Lady Sas: I’ve dealt with hundreds of dominatrixes. You’re one of the very few who has a claim. “Whip smart.” Sounds smart. What do you mean by that?

Vera Beaufort: I love the obvious double entendre. It speaks to both the practical skill and the way I think about the craft. Whip smart signals an approach that is cerebral and physical, guided by technique, experience, and an attentiveness to nuance.

It feels powerful, considered, and a little playful, which reflects how I move through the role of Dominatrix.

And while my interests are broad, impact (and whipping in particular) has always been a deep love of mine. Folding that affection into the language felt natural, and a little mischievous, too.

Australia is fortunate to have an exceptionally high calibre of FemDoms and fetish providers.

Vera Beaufort

Lady Sas: You are currently based in Melbourne, Sydney, and Canberra, but you have gained a lot of experience around the world. What have you learned on your travels that has helped you in your work as a dominatrix?

Vera Beaufort: I have been fortunate to session, train and meet people across Europe, Australasia, and Asia. What excites me most about this exposure is the range of perspectives and approaches it offers. For me, developing a well-rounded practice has meant looking beyond kink and BDSM alone, and engaging with adjacent disciplines and cultures, including shibari, tantra, and other forms of bodywork. Over time, these practices have become integral to what I bring.

Different parts of the world also carry their own proclivities and dominant currents. Learning about the histories and zeitgeists of kink in different locations fascinates me, as it often reveals something broader about the culture and psychology of a place. Even the session applications I receive can vary markedly depending on where I am in the world. Cultivating cultural adaptability has proven to be a powerful skill that, in my experience, opens many doors.

My submissives come from many parts of the world. Being able to travel to their regions allows me to better understand their contexts, motivations, and cultural frameworks, which in turn enables me to guide them with greater understanding.

Vera Beaufort about the Femdom Scene in Australia

Lady Sas: What can you tell us about the Femdom scene in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra? How does society deal with Femdom?

Vera Beaufort: Australia is fortunate to have an exceptionally high calibre of FemDoms and fetish providers. While the community here is smaller than in Europe and other larger regions, I feel grateful to be part of a network of remarkable women and femmes who are skilled and generous.

Australia as a whole tends toward conservatism, shaped in part by its British colonial inheritance. This is a sensibility that still lingers in social attitudes. That said, my primary base is Melbourne, which has a vibrant scene. It is a city I would readily recommend to serious devotees of kink.

To surpass myself and what I thought I was capable of, and to witness and support others in surpassing themselves, are the most beautiful and meaningful experiences I have had.

Vera Beaufort

Lady Sas: What excites you most about dominating a sub as a dominatrix?

Vera Beaufort: For me, leading, guiding, and dominating are about authentic expression. They create a space in which I can express my natural demeanour and way of being.

That said, the physiological and relational aspects of BDSM and kink, supported by physical practice, are what interest me most. To surpass myself and what I thought I was capable of, and to witness and support others in surpassing themselves, are the most beautiful and meaningful experiences I have had. These moments can be both very tender and very sadistic.

Knowing women who have fully reclaimed their power, and allowing men to surrender against societal pressures to always maintain dominance, are the experiences that keep me deeply engaged in the work.

Vera about inspiration and free time

Lady Sas: What inspires you? How do you come up with fresh ideas?

Vera Beaufort: Inspiration can take many forms for me. This work is as much a creative practice as it is a practical skill.

I am a deep lover of art, design, and architecture. I am also a voracious reader and listener of music. Any of these can trigger my erotic imagination and spark an idea for a scene.

From an aesthetic standpoint, fashion is also a significant influence, for the romance, irreverence, playfulness, and experimentation it carries. John Galliano, Yohji Yamamoto, Martin Margiela,  are designers I return to often for their sense of fantasy, whimsy, and subversion, as well as their particular representation of femininity.

I am also inspired by my peers, whose work and perspectives continue to inform my own practice.

Ultimately, the human body and mind, and their enormous capacity to feel, respond, and change, are a central source of inspiration for me. Exploring this capacity, taking control of it, or moving within the complexity of another person’s inner world, is where my interest most consistently returns.

I have a very active mind and imagination, so when I am not travelling, I stay engaged through reading, visiting galleries, and attending live music.

Vera Beaufort

Lady Sas: Please tell us how you spend your free time.

Vera Beaufort: I travel a lot. I am deeply curious about other cultures and about having a diverse range of experiences. This curiosity extends across all aspects of culture: food, music, art, architecture, and fashion.

I have a very active mind and imagination, so when I am not travelling, I stay engaged through reading, visiting galleries, and attending live music. I also enjoy spending time in my studio, tinkering with equipment.

Alongside my practice, I am also developing a side project, The Kink Archive, which aims to create a home for the memories, histories, and practices of those within the kink community. It has become an unexpectedly rewarding way to honour the lineages of the scene and to connect with remarkable people. I plan to release the archive later this year.

Lady Sas: What are your plans for the future?

Vera Beaufort: I will be relocating from Australia to France in June 2026. I am looking forward to expanding my practice across Europe and to forming new connections with peers, submissives, and lifestyle players. Anyone interested in connecting is warmly invited to reach me via my website, verabeaufort.com.

Lady Sas: Thank you very much.
