The police in Wichita Falls, Texas, confirmed that it was a tragic murder followed by the suicide of the perpetrator.

Her ex-husband Brian Barnwell (53), who had apparently shot himself after the crime, was also found dead in the immediate vicinity. Investigators are assuming an escalated personal conflict and many long-time fans, followers and companions were deeply shocked.
Obey Melanie was a prominent figure within the BDSM and femdom scene. With a mixture of dominance, creativity and passion, she built up a loyal online following over the years. Her content, which she distributed via platforms and her own sites, often struck an emotional chord and was extremely popular.

She was an original in a world of copies. She had femdom in her blood and could create masterful, inspiring scenes. We will sorely miss her and her creativity. 52 years – that is simply far too soon. Rest in peace, dear Melanie.”
