Mistress Seren, Dominatrix in New York City

Mistress Seren did not stumble into professional domination. She chose it.

After eight years in sales and a successful career in tech, she left the corporate world behind to build a life around power, psychology and submission. What began as a fascination with the archetype of the Dominatrix became a new identity — shaped by BDSM, Jungian ideas, entrepreneurial instinct and a deep interest in what happens when people stop hiding the parts of themselves they have learned to suppress.

Today, the New York City Dominatrix works with submissives who are looking for more than a scripted fantasy. Her practice is built on trust, psychological depth and long-term power exchange. At the same time, she speaks openly about the business of professional domination. From branding and client relationships to money, independence and success.

In this conversation Mistress Seren talks about male submission, Female-Led Relationships, the psychology of surrender, the New York domination scene and why giving up control can, for some men, become a path toward greater self-knowledge and freedom.

This interview is part of a series of interviews with dominatrixes from around the world. New to Femdom? Our Femdom Guide provides an introduction.

Lady Sas: Dear Seren, looking back, was there a specific moment when you realized that dominance was not simply something you enjoyed, but your true calling? How did Mistress Seren come into being?

Mistress Seren: I was first introduced to the world of domination at nineteen, when I read Whip Smart, a memoir about a professional Dominatrix in New York. I remember being very moved by the book, and thinking to myself being a Dominatrix is what it means to truly live. That idea resurfaced a decade later when I was feeling disenchanted by my career in the tech world, and began questioning where I was going to take my life next. I, myself, was seduced by the idea of the Domina.

So I spent a year studying BDSM, power dynamics and submissive psychology through books, films, courses and practice. I immersed myself in this world, and then created Mistress Seren. I think of Seren as an archetype, and once I developed her, which is also to say I created another version of myself I quit my job. I dove headfirst into this world and then created the life that I had once dreamed of.

What Mistress Seren learned about power in the corporate world

Lady Sas: You describe yourself as a woman who left a successful corporate career to fully embrace her power as a Dominatrix. What did the corporate world teach you about power, and what lessons did you only learn after entering the dungeon?

Mistress Seren: The corporate world taught me that power is fluid. And often times, the one with the most power is the one with the most knowledge.

I spent eight years in sales, speaking with founders and executives. I learned to read people quickly: their communication style, energy, desires, needs and resistance. I learned how to build trust, hold tension and remain grounded when a powerful person pushed back. My goal on a sales call was to build a connection instantly with the person on the call, because sales is ultimately a practice of emotionally connecting with someone so that they buy. I learned how to slightly morph into a woman that the person on the other side of the call could trust. I have always known how to shapeshift or be a chameleon, and not in a way that is inauthentic to who I am, but in a way that expands who I am. You can imagine how those skills translate directly into my work with submissives.

The deeper lesson I learned is something you can’t learn when working for a company. I learned I could create my own business, income, and reality rather than spend my life building someone else’s vision. Society tells us to join a company and climb the ladder; it does not teach us to invent a life as a successful Dominatrix and sex worker. The confidence I earned by doing precisely that is true empowerment. My submissives feel it because I am not performing authority for them. I have built a life that gives me the authority to lead.

Lady Sas: Carl Jung’s ideas seem to play an important role in your philosophy. You often speak about the shadow self. What do you believe submissive men discover about themselves when they confront their hidden desires?

Mistress Seren: It is difficult to be a submissive man in a culture that still teaches men to equate masculinity with control. And a desire becomes part of the shadow when society tells us it is wrong, or when we judge and exile it ourselves. For a man who has felt submissive for as long as he can remember, confronting that hidden part is not merely acknowledging a kink. He is meeting himself, fully and completely. When he is brave enough to recognize his desire and seek a woman who can see, encourage and guide it, shame begins to lose its power.

Jung described individuation as separating from the person one is supposed to be in order to become who one authentically is. That requires the integration of every part of the self, including those we once considered unacceptable. The submissive man often discovers that surrender does not make him smaller. He feels more alive, more connected and more whole. That is the paradox: by accepting his need to give up control, he gains freedom.

Beyond Kink: BDSM as a Path to Self-Discovery

Lady Sas: You write that BDSM can be a path to individuation and self-discovery. Many people still see kink as simple entertainment or sexual play. What do you think they are missing?

Mistress Seren: There are levels to BDSM, and the level someone reaches often reflects the depth they are willing to explore within themselves. There is nothing wrong with approaching it as something fun, sexy or novel. But that is not the space in which I choose to explore BDSM.

BDSM can become a modality for healing, self-acceptance and profound psychological expansion. I remember reading about erotic dehumanization and realizing that turning someone into a table, a lamp or a footstool could be a meditative practice: for a person with a busy mind, being given one purpose and one thing to focus on can become a Zen experience. How beautiful is that?

Ultimately, I choose to play with those who are deeply submissive, not BDSM tourists or fetishists. A fetishist may seek for a particular act. A submissive serves because submitting to a powerful woman is part of who they are. Those are the people I invite into my world.

Lady Sas: Your website suggests that a session is not merely an experience, but a transformation. Without revealing confidential details, can you tell us about a moment when you realized that a scene had a lasting impact on a submissive’s life?

Mistress Seren: My intention is always for the scene to have a lasting impact beyond the scene itself. I remember one submissive who came to his first session with me visibly shaking. During a punishment, he said yellow, and a moment later he fainted. I panicked internally, but on the outside I seemed completely calm. I helped bring him back to consciousness and created an environment that felt safe and warm. What stayed with him was not the punishment or even the fainting. It was the moment he understood that I would catch him. He had heard me describe myself as a caretaker, but now he experienced that care when he was at his most vulnerable.

That was over a year ago now, and he is still mine. That moment created the foundation and trust to go to great depths together. Between our in person encounters he serves me and allows my guidance to enter his life.

A scene can be extraordinary for an afternoon. Transformation begins when what happens inside that room changes someone’s capacity to trust, surrender and understand himself long after the scene ends.

The Psychology of Submission: Trust, Growth and Surrender

Lady Sas: Many of your submissives describe feelings of healing, emotional release, and personal growth. Why do you think dominance can have such a profound psychological impact?

Mistress Seren: A Dominant can see a submissive for who they truly are in a way that perhaps no one else in their life does. To witness someone’s deepest, most shameful or carefully hidden desires and then encourage rather than reject them is intimacy. When a submissive is accepted, guided and cared for inside a clear power structure, they no longer have to split themselves into the “respectable” person the world sees and the secret person they fear the world doesn’t accept. That integration alone can be profoundly healing.

BDSM also asks us to step outside our everyday identity and give neglected parts of ourselves room to speak. A person who carries responsibility all day may finally release it. Someone trapped in their thoughts may be brought fully into the body and the present moment. My responsibility is not merely to create intensity, but to understand what that intensity opens.

I want my submissives to become better human beings through their relationship with me. Sometimes that growth happens organically through trust and repetition; sometimes I guide it directly. In either case, dominance has impact because it combines being deeply seen with being deliberately led.

When a submissive is accepted, guided and cared for inside a clear power structure, they no longer have to split themselves into the “respectable” person the world sees and the secret person they fear the world doesn’t accept. That integration alone can be profoundly healing.

Mistress Seren, New York City

Lady Sas: You appear highly selective about who you accept as a submissive. What qualities make someone interesting to you, and what immediately disqualifies a potential applicant?

Mistress Seren: There are many I look for. I am interested in someone who is submissive not only in fantasy, but as a deep and enduring part of their personality. I look for men who have sustained long-term D/s relationships before, because that tells me they can hold the emotional complexity of a relationship with a professional Dominatrix. I value power in a submissive, because one must possess power in order to give it meaningfully. Intellect matters to me; I am a sapiosexual and want to learn from the people in my world, to sit across a dinner table and have a compelling conversation.

Generosity is important as does the ability to see that there is far more to me than the beauty that may first attract them. What disqualifies someone is a fixation on using me to perform a predetermined sexual fantasy. I have no interest in becoming a prop in a script a man has written for his orgasm. I choose people who are drawn to the power dynamic itself: the desire to please, to relinquish control and, as trust grows, to let me take them somewhere far more interesting than any place they could imagine.

Power, Independence and Female-Led Relationships in New York

Lady Sas: The New York domination scene is known worldwide. How has it changed since you began your career, and what makes New York different from other cities?

Mistress Seren: I am still relatively young in my career, but I have reached a level of success quickly, and one change I have noticed is the way New York Dominatrices value their work. When I raised my rate to $1,000 an hour, only a small number of women on the major platforms were positioned at that level. Now there are many more. I see that as positive. Whether or not my decision influenced anyone else is not for me to claim, but I am pleased to see women recognizing the value of their practices and creating greater financial freedom for themselves.

I think New York is also distinguished by its independent model. In other cities many Dominas work through studios or established dungeons. Here, there can be greater opportunity as an independent practitioner, but independence means you have to be an entrepreneur too. We are also fortunate to work in an affluent city, which supports rates that are difficult to achieve in much of Europe.

Lady Sas: Female-Led Relationships are a major part of your work. What distinguishes a true FLR from the fantasies that many men have about female authority?

Mistress Seren: The clearest distinction is time. A man who comes to a Dominatrix for two hours in order to enact a fantasy is engaging in one kind of experience. An FLR asks for commitment to a relationship in which the roles endure: he is the submissive, I am the Dominant, and my authority can consensually expand beyond the dungeon into his daily life. That creates greater depth, intimacy and possibility. We may share dinners, travel, rituals, service and forms of control that cannot exist inside a single scene.

Fantasy and reality begin to blend, but the paradox is that a true FLR cannot be governed by the submissive’s fantasy. Someone devoted to submission must be willing to release what he thinks submission is supposed to look like and allow his deepest desire to become pleasing me. I still weave his desires into our experience where they align with my own, but I lead. What I create with a man over time will be more psychologically precise, more surprising and ultimately more fulfilling than a fixed script he built in his mind before he met me.

Lady Sas: Beyond your work as a Dominatrix, you are now teaching other women how to build successful businesses through your ‘Domme Your Business’ course. What motivated you to share your knowledge instead of keeping your methods private?

Mistress Seren: I have always been a woman for women. When I first started, I found incredible resources on how to develop skills for the dungeon. However, I didn’t find a space dedicated to teaching women how to build a thriving business. Fortunately, I had my background in tech and I approached becoming a professional Dominatrix like building a startup. I won’t lie, I briefly hesitated at first to share what I’ve done that has made me successful. But, I don’t believe gatekeeping information. And in Domme Your Business, I share everything.

I remember a new Domme reached out to me and after following my playbook she had made $20k in her second month. Why would I ever want to prevent any one else from reaching that type of success? I think that because no one is speaking so openly about money, and the skills that have made them successful, the entire industry is being held back.

Domme Your Business is also about community. I deliberately built a culture in that community that is generative and supportive. Women rise faster when we rise together. There are enough submissives for everyone. And, I always say, do it better than me, earn more than me, become greater than me.

The Business and Future of Professional Domination

Lady Sas: You have openly shared that you built a professional domination practice generating $250,000 annually within two years. What do successful professional Dominatrices understand about business, branding, and client relationships that many newcomers overlook?

Mistress Seren: Have you seen that meme of the t-shirt that says “BDSM, business development sales and marketing?” If you are a professional Dominatrix, you understand that is also the acronym for your role. A successful professional Dominatrix must be both an excellent Dominatrix and an excellent entrepreneur. Those are two distinct skill sets. Then she must understand submissive psychology, build trust and create an unforgettable world in person so that she becomes irreplaceable to her submissive. And she must communicate that world online through a coherent brand, compelling content, photographs, and consistent self-promotion. It is a lot! And it is all possible.

Many newcomers concentrate on learning the tools of BDSM and assume the money will appear. It will not. If you do not treat this as a business, it will not become one. The most successful Dominas I know are persistent, creative and willing to reiterate. There is no universal roadmap, because each Dominatrix has their own unique business based on their personal preferences. What matters is grit. Those who want to be successful understand they are building a Dominatrix, a brand, and long-term relationships at the same time.

Lady Sas: The professional domination scene has evolved dramatically through social media, online platforms, and changing attitudes toward BDSM. How do you see the future of professional domination in the United States?

Mistress Seren: I see a big, bold and bright future for professional domination in the United States. Submissiveness is becoming more visible and more accepted, which gives people permission to explore desires they once tried to bury. At the same time, AI is changing how we live and work. At its best, it can remove repetitive labor and create more room for creativity and human connection. But it can also deepen disconnection. As our lives become more mediated by technology, the ability to make another human being feel truly seen will become more valuable, not less.

A skilled professional Dominatrix has an exceptionally rare form of expertise: she spends hundreds of hours each year intimately connecting with people, and when I say intimately, I mean in its true definition. With AI, there are many more successful founders and leaders who know the loneliness or exhaustion of carrying power. They usually lack the time to invest in finding what they’re looking for through dating. So they seek a place where they can unfold, relinquish control and be understood without having to explain themselves. That creates an enormous opportunity for not just Dominatrices, but sex workers in general to thrive.

Lady Sas: Finally, if a reader is struggling with shame about their submissive desires, what would you want them to understand about themselves?

Mistress Seren: Your submissive desires are far more normal than you think. I have heard the same confession across hundreds of conversations: I tried to ignore this. I pushed it away. I put it in a box. And it kept coming back. When a desire is innate, repression does not make it disappear; it only divides you from yourself. The sooner you approach that part of yourself with curiosity rather than judgment, the sooner you can live authentically. Accepting yourself is an act of self-love.

Surrounding yourself with people who can value the parts you once considered unlovable or taboo allows you to stop performing a version of yourself that was designed for other people’s comfort. That does not mean surrendering indiscriminately. It means choosing a skilled, ethical woman who understands the responsibility of receiving your submission and can guide you with care, structure and intention. On the other side of shame is self-acceptance, and on the other side of self-acceptance is freedom. For a deeply submissive person, being dominated can be the place where they finally stop pretending and feel fully alive.

Lady Sas: Thank you very much.

How does Mistress Seren understand male submission?

She views deep submission as something that can be part of a man’s identity rather than simply a sexual preference. For men who have spent years suppressing submissive desires, accepting their need to surrender control can become a way to experience greater self-acceptance and personal freedom.

What role does Carl Jung play in Mistress Seren’s philosophy?

What does Mistress Seren look for in a submissive?

Mistress Seren looks for men whose submission goes beyond fantasy.
